Vintage Sterling Taxco Brooch, brown tortoiseshell, 2.25″. 1970’s. Weight is 5.45 grams. It is 1.25″ wide. It is signed Taxco, Mexico with what looks like a NGR or NGI – not sure. There is also a mark on one foot that is a pictograph. There are etched markings on the sterling to add detail to the turtle. This has a brown tortoiseshell cabochon. You can see in with the light behind it in some of the photos. I am not sure if it is true shell or a simulated shell. The bottom of it has a coating of some sort that I first though could be created shell and I did the not needle test which only was very slight at the tip. It seems like that could be a glue or cement that coated the bottom to hold the cabochon in the brooch. However I am not sure. I tried the shell on the back at the very edge and it did not go into the very top. Either way it is a great brooch with nice appeal. It is in good condition with only mild tarnish that can be polished if you desire. See photos. This came from a PA estate. (Lot. LoC. W.8/418G.2X1 – LD 8/8/18).
We carry mostly vintage jewelry across all themes in my stores and listings. We have our own store and are and have been known as stampshopgirl in Ebay and have been since I think 2003. At one point we had a gift shop/rubber stamping store and switched over to vintage jewelry about six years ago on a full time basis, which also including taking and completing gemology classes as well as jewelry appraisal studies. We carry limited other vintage items and am trying to change our presence to marias vintage and estate treasures. You may see both names until the migration is complete. You can find us on pinterest where all ebay items and other venues are categorized – mariasvinta0654.
WE DO NOT STORE FINE METALS AND GEMSTONES ON PREMISES. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT QUESTIONS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE ANSWERED IMMEDIATELY. THANK YOU.
Thank you for stopping by, mariasvintage.
